02/19/11

Yesterday we went to Siler City to the Carolina Stockyards with Mom and Dad.

This is one of the main reasons why we love to go:

You just have to experience a freshly made Carolina Stockyard Restaurant cheeseburger to understand.

The kids absolutely love them... and are carrying on the tradition started so long ago when Daddy was in dairy business.

Wes is following in his Poppy's footsteps and loves the onions they put on it. He chooses to take his off and eat them like fries. He enjoyed mine, too.

My first bite.... ahh. Wonderful.

As it was when I was growing up, it still is today. We walk the boardwalk above the cows. This side shows the cows that are waiting to be sold. The other side has the cows that have already been bought.

This walk brings back so many memories from when I was a child coming with Mom and Dad.

Wesley had the best time checking out the cows. He still wants one of his own. Maybe one day we will be able to make that happen.

This is the cow Wes was pointing at in the previous pic.... she had some huge horns!

This bull was not so nice... high strung or dangerous bulls are put into "confinement" and are always sold last. Any wonder why?

It is so neat sitting in on the auction. We watched several people bid on the cows and it was fun to watch. I love that these people are just every day, ordinary folk. This is what it used to be like when I was growing up..... now, not so much in Raleigh.

Daddy was trying to show Wesley how the cows/bulls were bought. This is the area to check out when you are wanting to buy one.... or a few!
This may not be the high spot in a day for some of you, but it surely was for us. It was a great way to spend a day off from school!

Looks like a yummy, fun day! Events that trigger the childhood memories are the best.

I can't believe I've never heard of this place!! Looks like you had lots of fun!

BTW: Don't people look at you funny when you're in a restaurant taking pictures of the food?! LOL!

I love it when you talk about that place! It is a piece of history, family fun, and education all in one!
