08/18/09







These were at Fort Fisher at the beach. I went there when I was about Wesley and Mikayla's age and only remembered the old anchors. I didn't realize this fort was one of "sand dunes" piled up on underground walkway areas. We learn something every day. :) If I remember correctly, this was the last fort to "fall" during the Civil War. Wilmington, NC was quite the happening place during the Civil War because they were still able to get cargo/supplies through since the fort was at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. Too bad it fell..... Of course, we all know what happened at the end of the Civil War, but we southerners can dream can't we? ha!
